New Hope Chapter #56, OES, was organized sometime between 1910 and 1915. In the minutes of 1916, the Officers were as follows: Rebecca Jackson, RM Henry Moore, RP Ella Rose Jackson, AM Elise Turner, Sec Florence Jackson, Tres Edith Wheatley, Con Henrietta Crawfor, Ass Cond Leona Moore,Herald Jesse Burnes, Truth Lucretia Mix, Faith Martha Mitchell, Charity Estella Adams, Wisdom Blanche Benning, Warder Annie Northought, Sentinel Robert Portwright,Member Tillie McCluskey, Member Susan Edwards, Member Maria Smith, Reinstated During the early years and at that time the Grand Body was known as United Grand Chapter of Missouri and Jurisdiction and worked in the Amaranth Degree. Not much is known of the Chapter's early history or achievements. In 1921,there was a split in the Grand Chapter and New Hope along with many other Chapters were reorganized in October of 1921 in Mexico, Mo., by the late Grand Master Crittenden E. Clark and adopted by the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Missouri, and become known as Harmony Grand Chapter of Missouri and Jurisdiction. New Charters were issued to all Chapters and that is why the present Charter bears the organization date of 1921. New Hope has had 3 Past Grand Patrons,(Bros. John H Williams, John B Lovings and Dewit Lawson). One of the most outstanding Grand Officers was Past Grand Matron Lillie E Lovings who served from 1948-1950. She had filled many other improtant offices on her way up, such as, Grand District Deputy, District #1, Grand Burial Sec, (as our Charity Dept. was know at that time), Grand Treasurer, and Grand Ass. Matron. She also organized and directed the Amaranth Degree Team and the Chapter of Sorrow Degree Team. She was appointed Grand Auditor by Sis. Esther K. Harris, an office which she held until her health and eyesight began to fail. Bro. John H Williams served many Chapters as Worthy Patron due to his ability to be avaible for funerals and initiation when other men were at work. Bro. DeWit Lawson served as Grand Sentinel, Grand Ass. Patron, Grand WP and King Solomon on the Queen of the South Degree Team demonstrated at the International Conference of Grand Chapters in Atlantic City, NJ in 1954.
